Harry kindly sent me his Licorice Rocky Road. Yes licorice, which is not a flavour you’d usually associate with this style of chunky chocolate arrangement.

Doubling the dodgy factor for me was that I don’t like licorice. Never have and I try a piece every five years or so to double-check – like I do with KFC – and realise that nup, it still doesn’t crush my cocoa.
Harry’s Rocky Road however was speaking to me. Not in a ‘The voices made me do it’ weirdo way, but in an enticing, ‘Come ooonnnn, you know you want me’ kind of way. Plus, Love Chunks absolutely adores licorice and kept asking, “So, have you reviewed it yet, huh? No? How about now? Is now a good time for you? No? What about now? Please?”
The key elements of milk chocolate, marshmallows, licorice, rice crisps and dark chocolate actually result in nearly forty separate ingredients that made my eyes hurt trying to read the back nutritional panel, so I gave up and took photos of it undressed instead. I’ve made an executive decision to not always stress about the fat, saturated and sugar content in the chocolates under review – after all, that’s not what we’re here for, is it?
Harry’s licorice Rocky Road smelled…… delicious. Chocolatey, sweet and with a distinct aniseed and molasses flavour that – for once – didn’t make me want to flee in the opposite direction.
And it tasted …… wonderful! The licorice was the softest I’ve ever tried in my life and not that horribly chewy, stretchy stuff that blackens your teeth and makes you wonder how sane people can enjoy eating it. When combined with the soft, instantly-melting chocolate, vanilla marshmallows and crispy rice pieces it was a symphony of tastes matching perfectly.
“This. Is. Great!” said Love Chunks, reaching for his fourth piece.
“Yes. It. Is!” was my reply as I also reached for more and more and more.
It in fact inspired me to visit Harry’s online shop and order FIVE other Rocky Road flavours. It also inspired me to try some of the better quality, softer and fresher non-chocolate-covered licorice that’s available and I have actually quite liked it.
Not as much as Harry’s interpretation of it though. This is a nicer and more enjoyable way for non-licorice lovers like me to give the strange black food a second or twentieth chance. And besides, doesn’t everything taste better with chocolate?

I’ve been wanting to try some of their different rocky roads since your last review of them (I think it was your review anyway)
The problem is that I know I’ll want to order quite a bit to justify paying postage. Then I know I’ll eat it all
They do have lots of interesting looking flavours though. And I see they have a ginger one as well now *sigh*
I love licorice and I think adding it to rocky road is a great idea. I’ll check Harry’s online shop later, it might be a great place to order a few christmas treats from.
Hey, I am the very lucky recipient of a gone chocco t-shirt! And i love it! Nice design, chocolate chick! Thanks! xxxx
It probably was mine, Christine on the UK/international site Chocablog – I tried and loved Harry’s Turkish Delight Rocky Road.
River, if you like Rocky Road and licorice, you’ll love this version.
No worries Krustie – I’m hoping to design some GoneChocco t-shirts for prizes and so on in the future, so you’ve scored yourself a very rare and early design.
Glad you enjoyed Kath! Thanks heaps for your review… Love reading your thoughts
