Goodbye Polly

Yesterday, Nestle announced that the old Aussie classic, the Pollywaffle, will soon cease to exist.

A Nestle spokesperson I contacted said, “We have regrettably had to cease the manufacture of the Polly Waffle. This was an extremely hard decision for us as we have been making this product since 1937. The manufacture of the Polly Waffle is extremely unique. We know this product has many loyal consumers, so over the past few years, we have been investing time and resources into making improvements with the manufacture and formulation of the product to maintain it in our range. We have endeavoured to continue to make the bar, however, it is no longer sustainable.

We can assure you the decision to delete the Polly Waffle was done with extreme reluctance. We feel that we have done everything possible to ensure its viability, however it has not been possible to sustain in our range.”

The Herald Sun newspaper reported that stats from Nestle showed that Aussies are increasingly turning to Kit Kats (can’t blame ‘em) and Smarties (what the…?) instead.

So, sigh, the Polly Waffle – cutest bar name EVER – is dead.

  • Choc Goddess:

I even saw my mechanic walk out of our local corner store yesterday with an armful of Pollywaffles. He blushed when I saw him (he knows what my job is) and said, “Oh, er, these are for my, er wife. She, erhm, loves them.” Bless him – maybe a burly mechanic loving the cute-sounding Pollywaffle was too much for him to admit to?
